ANZ has sent customers a letter stating it will automatically lower loan repayments unless instructed otherwise.

Consumer New Zealand says normally customers are only asked to take action when they want to change the terms of an agreement.

“It's most unusual and I can't understand why the bank has done it, unless it is actually to get more money out of people and you wonder how responsible that is,” says Consumer NZ’s Sue Chetwin.
