Gas heater

Make sure that nice-looking gas heater actually is a heater.

You’ve found the perfect house … and as a bonus it has the flickering flames of a flame-effect gas fire. That makes it even more perfect until you discover the fire is decorative only and doesn’t provide much heating.

Some flame-effect fires are designed more for the aesthetic effect of the flickering flames than for heat output. Others, of course, do give the grunty heat output suitable for a large open-plan area.

If the house you are looking at has a gas heater, note the make and model then search the internet to get the specifications for the model – just to make sure it’s really a heater.

See our test of gas flame-effect heaters for our recommended models.
