Telecom says a fault with its broadband data usage meter means it overcharged some customers or incorrectly throttled their internet speeds.

Customers have been reporting problems with the meter for months.

Consumer NZ spokesman Hadyn Green said it had received a complaint from a Telecom customer who had been billed extra after Telecom incorrectly calculated their usage. Telecom had refunded the customer.
