The delay in shipments to New Zealand has resulted in a slew of imported iPads going on sale on Trade Me.

Paul Doocey, an advisor at non-profit consumer advice organisation Consumer NZ, said consumers buying from TradeMe needed to be aware that they may not be offered the same protections as if they bought from a registered Apple reseller.

"There are a couple of pitfalls when buying anything online. If it’s a private sale you are never going to have any protections under the Consumer Guarantees Act. The Act doesn’t cover goods bought by auction. If they are bought using the Buy Now option [on TradeMe] you will be covered." Read more.
