The Minister of Energy has responded to our concerns about LPG prices.
In April we looked at LPG prices and concluded they were too high. We then raised our concerns with the Minister of Energy, Gerry Brownlee.
We’re delighted that the minister has responded to our call for the LPG industry to be placed under the same scrutiny as the electricity and natural gas industries. The Ministry of Economic Development (MED) will soon begin monitoring LPG margins in the same way it monitors margins in the petrol and diesel market. MED will be tracking the landed cost of imported LPG and the retail price of 45kg LPG canisters.
We hope MED will also publish information on the relative volumes of locally produced LPG and imported LPG. Local production of LPG is expected to grow quickly and its cost is likely to be significantly lower than importing LPG. This change in where LPG is sourced will be relevant for monitoring margins.

It actually gets worse when you compare the price of automotive vs domestic gas. Friend has an adaptor which allows for the filling of his 9kg cylinder at the pump of a local service station and it is a lot cheaper. The price per litre does not equate to the price per kg. Kaching!
"placed under the same scrutiny as the electricity and natural gas industries"
And thats worked SOOO well for keeping the prices of those industries policed
electricity - 117% increase since 90's
?? -
Both recent electricity reviews pointed out (different) consumer rorts from that industry
Can you recognise a brush off when its dished up to you ???
