Dairy giant Fonterra is standing by its claim that an inquiry into the price of milk in New Zealand is unnecessary.

The Commerce Commission is making a preliminary analysis of the industry to decide whether a full inquiry into the price of milk is needed following suggestions a monopoly is operating around the staple

The investigation is being welcomed by Consumer NZ though, which expects it to reveal evidence of price-gouging.
