Consumer New Zealand has been putting pressure on the Government to carry out a review and said legislation surrounding milk may have to change so that average Kiwis can afford dairy products.

"New Zealanders were promised a competitive milk market when Fonterra was set up in 2001," Chief Executive Sue Chetwin said.

"After ten years of rising milk prices, it is time for the Committee to hold an inquiry into what has gone wrong."
