It pays to shop around before getting your car's next warrant of fitness.

A Bay of Plenty Times Weekend survey of 10 outlets in the Western Bay found a 38 percent price difference between the cheapest and the most expensive places to get a warrant of fitness.

Consumer NZ Research and Testing manager Hamish Wilson said the organisation advised people to shop around for a service.
