Supermarket rain checks.

Ever gone to the supermarket to buy a product on special and found it's sold out? You may be able to ask for a rain check so when it's back in stock, you'll only pay the special price.

Specials are really important at the moment, so we asked each supermarket what their policy on rainchecks was.

New World operates a rain-check system. The store records any requests for advertised items that are out of stock. You're then contacted when the product arrives, or you can arrange to buy the product at the advertised discounted price on your next visit.

Pak'n Save generally doesn't advertise specific items nationwide. If an individual store advertises a special, it's responsible for ensuring it can honour the offer.

Progressive Enterprises (Countdown, Foodtown and Woolworths) offer rain checks when advertised specials are out of stock. The only exception is when specials are advertised as "while stocks last" - so check the fine print of special deals.
