Consumer New Zealand is calling for a major review of safety standards for children's products.

It says 33% of nursery products tested over the past five years have had faults considered to be serious.

Consumer NZ's chief executive Sue Chetwin says this year alone five out of nine portable highchairs tested had major safety faults that meant a child could fall out.
