Blinds and curtains

Want your blinds or curtains cleaned professionally and promptly? We suggest you don't call Wellington Blinds.

We've had several complaints from members about this business, which advertises a same-day cleaning service. A man called Sean comes to pick up your blinds or curtains from your door. Getting them back is another story.

Members have told us they've had to make repeated calls to Sean to get their goods returned. But he's a hard man to get hold of: Sean doesn't always return calls and his ad in the Yellow Pages doesn't list a street address for his business. His advertised email address doesn't work either.

There's no company called "Wellington Blinds" in the Companies Register so you can't track him down that way. Sean also has listings in the Yellow Pages under “Hutt Valley & Upper Hutt Blinds” and “Kapiti Coast Blinds”. Again, no address details are provided and no such companies exist in the Companies Register.

We rang Sean and asked for a physical address so we could put complaints to him in writing. He wasn't prepared to give us his address, only a PO Box number. Sean didn't respond by our deadline. We gave him extra time but – although he said he’d reply – we still haven't heard anything.

We're not entirely sure what Sean's been up to with the blinds and curtains he's taken to clean. Members who contacted us have now got their goods back. But we think the case is a classic example of businesses you should avoid. If a trader won't provide a physical address or tell you where they're taking your property, don’t do business with them.

I totally agree to stay well clear of this guy. He took our blinds for cleaning and one needed a repair. We got the ones returned to us that were for cleaning only but the one for repair was never returned and we brought a replacement. I could not get hold of him thereafter, he was obviously aware of his downfall so did not bother to invoice us.

We have been using this business approx twice a year for the past 3 years and have always been very happy with the service. We phone to arrange a day/time and this has always been kept to. The blinds are returned late the same day, cleaned & smelling lovely. I think his trouble is he is too busy as he's always in a hurry. I do agree he's a bit hard to get hold of but the service and price outweighs this.
