How we calculate estimates for PowerShop plans
Powershop's highly customised pricing model means that it's harder to compare its prices with more standard electricity plans.
Powershop offers customers customised tariffs which are affected by the customers level of consumption, patterns of power use over the year and metering configurations.
We've worked to develop a calculation method that allows us to give an estimate of annual costs for Powershop products that takes into account all these variables.
There are some limits on the estimates provided;
- Powershop provides us with a forecast of what their charges will be for the next 12 months. These forecasts are adjusted on a monthly basis. The calculation of estimated annual cost uses these forecasts. This is slightly different to other retailers where the estimated annual cost is based on their tariffs as at the time of the query.
- The estimated annual cost is related to the Powershop default or Standard tariff and does not relate to other special interest tariffs (such as green tariffs) or discounted tariffs.
- From time to time Powershop offer special tariffs or the option to advance purchase blocks of power for future use. The estimates in Consumer Powerswitch do not include any of these special offers.
Every care has been taken over the development of estimates of annual cost for Powershop products and we are confident that the estimates we provide are as reliable as possible.
We will be monitoring Powershop pricing on an ongoing basis, to ensure the forecast data that we are using does match actual prices as closely as possible.
