Guide to the table
Our test is based on the standard AS/NZS 2040:1998. Price is based on surveys in Auckland, Wellington and Christchurch during June 2011.
Brand reliability
Based on our 2011 appliance reliability survey of 6125 washing machines.
Features
All front loaders have water heaters and object traps. Top loaders generally have neither.
Fisher & Paykel changes
Fisher & Paykel has revamped its top loaders. This includes technical changes to the control system and programming. Most of the Fisher & Paykel agitator models have improved water ratings and two models have increased their rated capacity by 0.5kg. This means the drum-size is the same but the machines have been tested and registered for water and energy star ratings at this larger load.
We’ve noted the new model numbers that replace models we’ve previously tested in the product profile (click on the name of the individual machine to see this information). We expect performance will be similar, but we’ll be testing the new models in the coming months to find out how they wash.
