A lineup of Macs in a computer shop

Selection
PCs come in all shapes, sizes, colours, and configurations. Macs are only available in a narrow range of models - the MacBook, MacBook Pro and MacBook Air notebooks; the iMac all in one;  and the Mac Mini and MacPro desktop models.

Customisation
PCs can have most components upgraded (in fact, you can even build your own) whereas the upgrades available on most Macs are limited to the RAM and hard drive.

Cost
Macs generally cost more than PCs, though the gap is closing.

Software
While many programs are now being made for both PC and Mac, there's no doubt there's still a bigger range of programs available to PC users. The selection of games available in the Mac platform is significantly less.

Choice
PC prices are kept down by the constant competition between rival manufacturers. Because Apple has no direct competition, they don't have to be as consumer-friendly with price. There are fewer suppliers and repairers of Mac products than PC, although major retail chains such as Bond and Bond, Harvey Norman, and Noel Leeming are now selling Macs.

Compatibility
It's likely that any peripheral (printer, keyboard, joystick, etc) you buy in an average computer store will be more compatible with Microsoft Windows than Mac.
