I use Hermesetas, which I get from chemists - mainly becase they come in a small container, which fits into a pocket in my handbag easily. (Also comes in a larger container) They are tiny, and not as sweet as 1 tsp of sugar.

It's particularly important to be careful about your pets if you use Xylitol sweeteners (or products that contain them) - while safe for people, they can kill dogs (quite quickly).

an artificial sweetener that doesn't taste revolting? Saccharine was completely unpalatable and aspartame and stevia are no better. I think it's disgusting that manufacturers are allowed to put aspartame in foods that aren't specified as being "diet" (e.g. Pam's soft drinks). There's also controversy over whether diabetics should use it. I have a friend who has had diabetes for over 50 years and she prefers not to.
