The costliest dispute imposed onto our building project came not from the contractors, but from idiots employed by our local Council as building inspectors. A dispute over whether timber was dry or not, held up work for 3 weeks. The problem was resolved when a senior Council staff member admitted that the moisture meters they used were not designed for the job, and the inspector had not been trained in testing moisture. Result - delay costs, a bill from the Council for the extra visits involved and no apology.
