Time limit for invoicing? Posted by: Katy King 07 Jul 2011 8:52pm

Is there any time limit for a tradesman to invoice a customer for work he has carried out? And once the client has been invoiced, what is considered a reasonable time limit for payment?

I have heard that 6 years is the limit for invoicing. Is this right?

And I have heard (but could well be mistaken!) that in the UK the client has the same length of time to pay as the time it took for the invoice to be issued. E.g. if you are invoiced 5 years after completion of a job, you have a further 5 years in which to pay. Does a similar rule apply in NZ? If not, what is stopping a tradesman from invoicing you 5 years after the job, and expecting payment within a week?

eftpos contract Posted by: Warren Sumner 17 Nov 2010 9:49pm

Is it reasonable to have to pay out the full term of a eftpos machine lease when the business is sold and the machines can no longer be used and the contract can not be carried out?
