I have been fortuate Posted by: Elderlybloke 13 Mar 2010 4:16pm

My dentist for 40 years has recently retired and I was charged at a low rate.
Now I go to the modern one and the charges are very much higher.

The gear at the new one is a bit more modern but not enough to have to charge so much but like most businesses now , charge as high as you can.

I must have saved a bundle over the years.

Relationship with dentist is important Posted by: Maia 06 Mar 2010 10:08am

It is important to understand whether your dentist cares about you and your teeth or sees you more as another economic unit. It may be that the dental practice you are with has rules - and prices - that your dentist has little control over.
If you are not happy, try another one.
Just don't complain about your previous dentist.

I agree that relationship with dentist is important but just for intial check up dentist charge so much that can think of visiting dentist for next 2 years.

I wish there is some kind of website where people can share the views about their dentist.

Choking on costs Posted by: Per Andersen 05 Mar 2010 8:25pm

The dentist had removed the filling to inspect the cause of the pain. At this stage he told me what it will cost to fix! Who in their right mind would argue while lying in the chair just wanting the pain to go away. I paid. The next day I asked a number of dentist what they would have charged. I asked the dental council if there were any prescribed fees. Evidently not. Was told you should always ask for a quote. I felt like I had been taken advantage of! Found a more reasonable dentist now!
