Does the referee have to tell all concerned that he is recording the hearing?

Flatmate damaged/burned bench top Posted by: Thomas S 07 Nov 2010 11:14pm

Can the tribunal handle the liability/reinstatement costs of a damage to the kitchen benchtop by a home-stay student/flatmate who expects OUR home insurance to cover his liability? Our excess is higher then the reinstatement costs. He has no liability cover for himself or through his parents.

Can the tribunal award "damages"? Posted by: Tony McGregor 02 Mar 2010 12:57pm

I have an LG blu-ray player that stopped working with my monitor the day I bought it when it updated its software (it has an Internet connection). LG won't repair it and say that I must buy a new monitor and pay the "repairer's" inspection fee of $55. I plan to lodge a claim with the disputes tribunal.

I spent over 3 hours on the phone with LG support on two different days before they told me I had to take it to a repairer. Then I had to visit the repairer to drop off the player and then again to lend them my monitor because they didn't have one with a DVI connection. I've also had to spend time on the phone with the repairer and the store I bought the monitor from. I live out of town. Can I make a claim that includes the cost of travel any my time?

Can a claim be for action rather than $s Posted by: crayfish 14 Dec 2009 7:38pm

All the foregoing seems to be about money. Can the Tribunal decide on matters other than financial outcomes? Eg. make a neighbour carry out obligations under a water agreement?
