• The ETS puts much of the cost of meeting our international obligations to reduce greenhouse emissions on future taxpayers. The costs and benefits of the scheme need to be reviewed.
  • Kiwis contribute only a small amount to global greenhouse gas emissions but the impacts of a warming climate are likely to significantly affect us. We can't expect other countries to do what we’re not prepared to do ourselves.
  • The government should commit to a mandatory target in line with the International Panel on Climate Change’s recommended 25 to 40 percent reduction. It should also provide a comprehensive domestic policy on how the target is going to be achieved.
