Powershop after one year

Overall I saved about $150 I could have saved more if the Powershop information was clear. Units are used on the basis of when you bought it. Anyone starting now won't save as much as they have raised their prices over 10% in one year and now aren't the cheapest. Doesn't show this on Consumers graphs though. I liked buying on credit card, liked their history graphs apart from the most important one which is designed to confuse: When judging how much power to buy it bases it on current usage rate not the future. It is cheaper over summer but dearer over winter so don't join in May! Overall an interesting experiment but I'm not convinced they have the consumer's interest at heart. Meridian in drag.

The powerswitch graph should indicate an increase of 1o% at least. Their summer power rate increased from 22.11 to 24.30 cents. While still good it shows the end of Powershop's golden summer with the consumer.

Annual Rebates/Dividends

Looking at Powerswitch, there doesn't seem to be any comment or mention of those companies which provide annual rebates or dividends. I presume that these are not accounted for in the rates given in Powerswitch? However, in that case, the price differentials may be cancelled out by the rebates or dividends provided to customers, thereby giving false reason to switch providers.

I attribute the recent offer from Contact Energy to give a 22% prompt payment discount to the combined consumers reaction to the pricing and service insufficiency of the energy providers nationally.
lets keep the pressure on them!!
ELGAS poor service

As a result of the 13 June Earthquake our hot water cylinder broke!
We decided to go to gas to mitigate the loss of services again and again following earthquakes.
After consulting with the 4 local LPG suppliers and having Elgas appeared the cheapest but their driver would not park his/her truck on the street to deliver the bottles. We had waited for a week following the application being approved before the service centre advised this. The service centre folk were pleasant but tardy in their responses generally.
Rockgas had simply no problem with their truck and delivery and admin service was spot on. However they are the most expensive, but they may react to market forces as the parent power company did, and lower prices to keep us..
Switching from LPG to piped gas

We have just switched from LPG to natural gas, as we worked out that we would save $450 per year! Our plumber/gasfitter pointed out that while LPG used to be a cheaper option, currently if you used more than 4 cylinders per year, it was far more expensive. We were sorry to leave Elgas, as we were very happy with the service, but the savings drove our decision. I went online and checked out how many kilojules we used, and did it all properly before switching. I did hear recently that there may be more LPG available soon, making the price potentially cheaper again, but we are happy with our decision. At least we won't have to keep checking to see whether the red arrow has moved across, and we won't have to remember to phone Elgas, so that is more convenient.
