Named because they are a gift only for the retailer when the voucher expires/retailer goes bust/card gets lost/ ......I would never recommend buying them. You're better giving somebody cash.

It should be law, that if stores offer gifts cards, that they must manage these through Trust Accounts, therefore safe guarding the vouchers value.
Gift card expiry

I don't think a giftcard should expire since the store has received in advance money for a purchase/s from their store. Isn't it like stealing if the card expires with money still on it?

I have been trying to use a gift voucher I had received. Unfortunately the service did not have any bookings before the expiry date and are now not returning messages. Does anyone know of my rights here?
Gift Vouchers - Expiry

Consumer advice:
"Gift vouchers may have an expiry date.
If they do, the trader has no obligation to accept it beyond this date - or to refund the voucher. But the expiry date must be marked on the voucher."
Beware that Whitcoulls, for example, issue some vouchers with expiry dates, and some without.
Gift Cards - Expiry

Credit card style gift card. Condition on reverse indicates the card will expire 2 years from date of issue. However, neither the card nor the attached gift envelope give any indication of an issue date. Reference is made to log on and check outstanding balance and also that any outstanding balance will be forfeited after 2 years.
Issue - if there is no issue date then how can there be an expiry date and therefore loss of any balance. What is the legal position?
