An elderly friend of mine was buried there recently - the details and the atmosphere were much appreciated by us all, it was a very appropriate burial for our friend who was always very practical. His son remarked on how much he would have approved of the visible posi-drive screws! Having the opportunity to engage in shoveling the dirt was also unexpectedly moving - it all felt more real, and fitting to literally lay our friend to rest. The major drawback was the remoteness of the site, to go back to visit - it is also quite steep which means mourners have tread carefully - and it's not easy for pall bearers and elderly or disabled folk. However the funeral director was excellent, and it's a wonderful initative - I hope this type of burial becomes more widely available.
How green is cremation?

Are there environmental issues with cremation? Cremation is a common option in NZ and I was disappointed this article does not cover it.

In a former time rural people were often buried on private land. What are the rules regarding this today? I too would like to avoid an undertaker.
Is it possible to have a do it yourself funeral without an undertaker.
