Onus on importers Posted by: willow 50 22 Feb 2012 7:15am

I agree that if sourcing can't be proved then it shouldn't be imported. I am constantly dsappointed with lack of staff knowledge & a lack of choice when it comes to buying sustainable furniture. I usually buy secondhand.

Place the onus on importers/retailers Posted by: Ray Skinner 24 Mar 2010 9:36am

Would we import medicines which do not comply with standards? Similarly with many other items. These wood-based products are imported because they are 'cheap' - but expensive to the world at large. If sourcing can't be proven then it can't be imported - quite simple really. It's up to the importers to sort out how to do that. If they can't then make a profit, well they know what to do - its their choice.
