Sold at Department of Conservation offices down south - why wasn't this DEET free NZ product reviewed? A great product, have used extensively in west coast environments including the notorious Karamea River.
My family and I have been using a product for 4 years now (not overseas though) called Buzz Free Zone Personal Spray made from essential oils and herbal extracts. Australian product certified organic that I buy from www.organics4you.net.nz
I don't think putting DEET on your skin is safe - just my opinion!
We have used Botanica No Insects Repellent Rollon for at least 4 yrs now including 2 trips to Asia & lots of tramping/camping trips in NZ and have found this very effective. No nasty chemicals - see www.botanica.co.nz
The roll-on also doesn't leak in our packs
I also prefer natural treatments and used botanica no insects repellent which worked well in Fiji. However the botanica product had no impact in Samoa, where I was getting constantly bitten during the day and and evening, so unfortunately had to revert to the traditional deet repellant.
Nothing beats it
Insects and mosquitos loves me, they always leave me big round bites and itchy. I use a product called Bushman which I think the best. I never got bitten again and I can go bush walking without worries.
