Simpler lifestyle the priority Posted by: Maia 05 Dec 2009 11:41pm

I have a single-burner, much like those you featured. Inexpensive, but it does the job. Light to carry, and everything together. Takes up very little space. One could have two for fancier meals.

Of course, it means adjustments in lifestyle. (No rice for me, but then I don't think rice is worth the effort anyway.) My idea was to simplify.

bigger portables Posted by: Nyla Sorensen 04 Dec 2009 8:05pm

id like to have portable bbq that has a lid, we and many others live in buses, and like to cook outdoors in the summer, and one with a lid would be nice to be able to do small roasts or chicken peices.

We bought a two burner that looks equivilent to the campmaster (though it has a drip tray) while in Canada at Canadian Tire and it cost us $40 canadian. This sort of price difference is repeated time and time again in almost any product you care to name. Why is it that we pay so much for everything in NZ. Its a little off topic but its something that really gets to me. Its like retailers here buy stuff retail in the US, ship it here and then add a juicy profit and tax on top.

It may have something to do with the shipping not being for free. And the cheaper the item the more noticeable the shipping cost.

Hi Kent
Yes I agree! It would be nice to have Canadian Tire here... But we don't think NZ retailers buy in North America and ship here, as that would hardly be economic. It's probably partly due to the much greater buying power of Canadian Tire forcing the makers prices down. We think local retail margins are probably higher as you suspect.

But the fact is that we get ripped off over here simply because we, the consumer, pay the prices!

I often, and I mean often, buy stuff on UK websites and get them sent over here and it still works out cheaper than buying in NZ; books, DVDs, games, good quality clothes etc. No-one looks out for the consumer here in NZ.
