Yates General Purpose Potting Mix Posted by: Free Forall 31 May 2011 4:47pm

Love this mix, I have been gardening for 50 years and this is the best mix I have ever bought. I found it a bit hard to find, but found some at Mitre 10 Mega Glenfield on the North shore of Auckland. I would think if you wanted to try it your local Mitre 10 would get it in for you. I have grown all my veggie in this mix this season and had a bumper crop, will be doing it again. Can not go past Yates heritage for quality products.

Debco Pot Power not what it used to be Posted by: Free Forall 30 May 2011 3:59pm

I recently purchased a bag of Debco Pot power and was very disappointed. It used to be a good potting mix with a slow release fertiliser that last 6 - 9 months, but I see on the bag it has only got a 3 month slow release and for the price I paid I thought I should have got the old Debco, I will not be buying this product ever again.

Yates Professional Potting mix best ever Posted by: Free Forall 30 May 2011 3:54pm

Used the new Yates professional potting mix, great it was the only one I could find with 12 month slow release fertiliser, water crystals and a Bio stimulant that really made my plants grow.

Tui vegetable mix Posted by: Neal Williams 09 Dec 2009 8:48pm

Lettuces, tomatoes, chili, capsicum, all performing miserably! Coriander from same batch planted in tired old potting thriving. Say's to me Tui is rubbish.

Consistency Posted by: MacThistle 11 Sep 2009 3:06pm

Like Kotuku I find no matter what you use, in the end different bags of the same mix will yeild different results. I use Results compost mix for everything, from potting plants or vege etc to muclching the soil. Usually pretty good results, the potting mix of same brand however is useless, very barky and drys out too quickly. As for Tui Vege mix, never again, used it in tubs for a variety of vege and they took off at a great rate for a start, then all went to seed very quickly!

tomatoes and Tui Posted by: kismet 02 Sep 2009 1:27pm

Recently we planted a grafted tomato in Tui potting mix and it is showing marks on a number of leaves that look like they are bleached in places. I am curious as to what is causing this as there seems there is no insect damage and does not look like fungus or viral infection

Lions and tigers and bears in my garden Posted by: moviebug 29 Aug 2009 1:39pm

ZooDoo's great stuff. I agree with the comments of Rachel Moore. As a gardener for many years, and very keen on growing great veges, for the past eight years I have supplemented my home made compost with ZooDoo compost, and used their potting mix as well. Both are excellent products, and best of all for me, ZooDoo deliver, and carry the bags to the exact spot in my garden where they are needed. No heavy lugging in and out of cars and down garden steps.

I use products from ZooDoo, which takes hoof-stock poo from zoos around the country and turns it into potting mix and compost. Last year I successfully grew loads of potatoes in PB40 bags of the ZooDoo compost, and tomatoes, dwarf beans, sugar snap peas, strawberries, zuchinni and herbs in containers of ZooDoo tub mix. I added extra fertiliser for potatoes, strawberries and tomatoes as they're gross feeders, didn't worry so much about everything else. Excellent water retention, and already have a very promising crop of Jersey Bennes, winter spinach and new strawberries on the way. ZooDoo is available in Wellington and Auckland, and possibly elsewhere; and they deliver for free! Excellent price point too. www.zoodoo.co.nz
