Whilst out last night I took my wife to a resteraunt The Barrellhouse Dannevirke. We both order a porterhouse steak one plain and one with garlic sauce. A small bowl of chips arrive 1st and two steaks about 5 minutes later both with garlic sauce. 1 was returned to the kitchen and a plain one arrive 10 minutes later. I then asked where my side order of onions were and again another 10 minute wait but they did supply a handle of beer at no charge. My wife had eaten hers before I started. My chips were cold the steak was half cold and the onions near burnt my mouth. The waitresses were pleasant, the surroundings were lovely and we did not complain. When paying I mentioned to the cashier who happened to me the owner/manager that my meal experience wasn't that pleasant and explained why and mentioned that I don't think full price should be charged for 1 of the meals but fair enough on the other and the drinks. He told me that there would be no reduction as it has already cost him a steak and a beer and he considered that was as much as he was going to wear. He got told in no uncertain terms what I thought of him and his establishment. I must reiterate as much as this was poor service from the kitchen we did not complain but though it should be mentioned when it come time to pay.Is it me with the problem or what are my rights here.

Hi,
You do have rights under the Consumer Guarantees Act for a service to be provided with reasonable care and skill and for the food to be of acceptable quality - the steak, onions and chips to be at the same point of eating.
In your case you did complain to the waitress, and received a new meal - which was still not satisfactory.
The manager no doubt thought he had remedied the situation by giving you a free beer while you waited for your new meal.
You should have mentioned to the waitress again that the steak and chips were half cold this time too, thus giving the kitchen and manager warning there was still a problem. Unfortunately ( no doubt starving by now) you ate the meal without complaining until the time came to pay.
So although the manager did not have to give you a discount on the second meal, in the interests of good customer service, maybe he should have done so.
However, as a result of your bad experience shared with your friends, he may well have lost potential customers.
Kind regards,

restaurant billing

as a group of 20 people can we ask a restaurant to bill us in smaller groups of two three or four....instead of writing all the food and drinks one sheet and patrons paying as they leave
having to sort out the items.....
i think a restaurant should bill individually or in two's...etc as many times the last person paying winds up paying for items other patrons have forgotten or missed and already left.....what is the law.....thanks
