Our test was conducted in the laboratory of the Australian consumer organisation Choice.

There was little difference in the performance or ease-of-use ratings for these cookers. Overall scores varied from 88 percent to 85 percent. Scores this close are rare in our tests - they indicate there's little to choose between the models.

Our advice is work out the size of cooker you want and then buy on price or some other feature that appeals to you.

  • Models were rice cookers costing up to $100.
  • Capacity allow half a cup of uncooked rice per person.
  • Price from a survey in Auckland, Wellington and Christchurch during February 2008
  • Scores out of 10
Performance (60% of overall score) based on cooking jasmine, brown and sushi rice.
Ease of use (40% of overall score) assessed on ease of assembly, controls, cleaning, and dishing out the cooked rice.
