Interesting to me Posted by: Genki 11 Jan 2011 1:17pm

I found this a good article. I've already bought 3 shade sails from mitre 10 on sale (funnily enough) $20 each and am using in our conservatory to cool it down a bit... has been very effective and they look good. The sails together with the polygal should see UV being controled ok. I'd like to check though with a UV metre... can we hire these I wonder? Also learned from this article that UV reflects from the ground... I might get some net curtains up for when we have the doors open. Thanks consumer.

I signed up for consumer mag and internet access just for this report. What a waste of money that was !!!

I agree with the people's comments this doesnt tell me which is the best one to buy, or differenciate the worst from the best.

Agree with Sam Williams comment. Are the brands sold in New Zealand tested and if so what were the results.

This article was not much use to me as a prospective shade sail buyer. Really didn't tell me anything.
What is better, woven or knitted?
What about reinforcing/edging? Should the sail be taut when fitted or allow to hang a bit? What about the poles and other hardware? Is it a good idea to attach directly to the house... what about through plaster (leaky building)? Some shade sails are (semi) waterproof... is that better or worse?
