Soy-products-hero

Soy has been touted as a wonder food, but there's also concern about its safety. What should you believe?

There is no doubt soya beans are very nutritious. They're as good as egg white for protein and they also contain fibre, beneficial omega-3 fatty acids and minerals, including calcium and iron. In addition there's some evidence that if you eat soy regularly it reduces blood cholesterol and therefore protects against heart disease.

And then there are unproven claims ranging from soy protecting against cancer, osteoporosis and other medical conditions, through to the contradictory claim that soy actually causes some cancers.
