Guide to the table
Our survey was conducted in February 2012. Our shoppers bought Home Brand products in each Countdown supermarket; in New World and Pak’n Save they bought Budget or Pams (where there was a choice, our list specified the cheaper Budget item).
$ shows the total cost of 20 house-brand items bought in each store. Items were the same across all stores. Where the pack size differed between brands, we calculated the unit price and converted it to a standard size.
