LED TVs...continued Posted by: reetz 26 Jan 2010 9:02pm

After my posting on 30/12/09, I bought one of these babies anyway. I'm no expert but I thought the latest Consumer report was a bit rough on this model. Honestly, I stood side-by-side other models etc when I went shopping and the picture quality of LED was far superior to most LCD and Plasma's each day I went looking at various shops! And, yes, it was more expensive but I paid (YES I got one...AND no regrets!) $2900 for mine. Sound? I customised my sound (yes, you can customise the sound ppl) and it's great. Speakers are placed at rear and face down theefore, bounce-back I guess, no probs with sound and I live on the airport flightpath! Consumer you forgot to add, it's THE thinnest tv ever at only 1.177 inches slim. Power saving, yes and that's all customisable too. The crispest, clearest picture is soo real, it's like 3D sortof. Broadcast tv viewing (Freeview) is built-in and I'm watching this more than sky now plus you can book progs on f/view with or without a title (unlike sky) cos f/view books the timeslot not the prog name, sadly you cannot record freeview unless you get a dvd recorder that is hd/freeview compatible, that'll be my next non-priority! Interestingly though, this model 3 mths ago, cost $5k so I consider I got a deal. Consumer.org is good, but sometimes you've just gotta go with your 'gut' feeling...glad I did!

outdated info Posted by: Rob Macintyre 22 Jan 2010 1:22pm

baffled by all the acronyms and jargon on TVs in the stores, I thought my consumer membership would prove its worth, no! hardly anything on refresh speed, nothing on LED.. in the stores each model has different specs on the labels so impossible to compare apples with apples, this web site needs a serious update

LED type TVs Posted by: reetz 30 Dec 2009 8:37pm

I was all intent on buying an LCD tv and whilst out shopping I bumbed in to an LED LCD TV. Does anyone have first hand experience of one? Seeing them instore, the picture is unbelievably clear and crisp, but the price...ouch! I cannot find enough reviews to help me decide. Consumer: Any chance you're going to do another TV test incorporating LED's in the next few days?...we need more up-to-date info on these little (or big) electronic toys/gadgets that take up much of our downtime. Any help or advice will be very much appreciated.

I am wondering about the interconnectivity between my laptop and any tv I buy. What sort of cabling do I need to plug in?

Reliability of TV Posted by: mslarma 30 Sep 2009 11:04pm

Just wondering if a member could help me please. Bought a 43 inch Samsung in May last year for 3,500. After less than one year had to havenew LCD panel and I think a T-Con Board. This was done in June this year. I now have another fault where the colour has gone haywire and skin tone on people is now blue. Obviously not happy with this. Rang Samsung and they said that it has to be fixed 3 times before they will replace it. I can't see that displayed in the warranty or anywhere under the consumer guarantees act. I feel for the money I have paid I should be able to expect a better TV. Please please help. Thank you.

LED? Posted by: Ian Clark 16 Sep 2009 9:53pm

LED is already well out there in the market place as a new, low energy consuming technology. Some manufacturers have ceased making Plasma e.g. Pioneer. LCD is now being seen at 55 cm size. But report here says nil re the new LED technology????
