How much do new performance ratings for tertiary institutions tell you?

Figures on completion and retention rates for all tertiary institutions have recently been made public for the first time. The results show 14 out of 20 polytechnics had retention rates of less than 50 percent in 2009.

So is the answer to enrol at an institution with high retention rates? Not necessarily. As a yardstick of educational performance, the newly released figures give you only part of the picture.
