It is definitely a buyers' market for second-hand timeshares. My wife and I paid $4500 for a NZ timeshare and the annual maintenance fee for one week is about $650. We previously owned a near new timeshare in Australia, where we paid 4 times as much to buy it and more in maintenance fees - which increased yearly, mostly due to the devaluing. NZ dollar relative to the Australian dollar.
The special advantages of a NZ timeshare are that one can exchange to other timeshares around the world; plus one has access to additional bonus weeks around the world. And the quality of the accommodation is usually very good.
Timeshares certainly work for us.
