Model

We show the details of models from suppliers that responded to our survey. The more expensive systems from each maker often include options such as extra vents that can improve performance. We strongly advise getting competitive quotes on several different systems which include similar features.

The moistureMASTER FFH MM150Mis and FFH 150L are designed for houses that have no usable roof space. Drivaire and DVS also offer this type of unit.

Type

See Types of system for details on the pros and cons of each system.

House or room size

The size of house or room that can be ventilated by the unit, in square metres. If you have chapel ceilings or a higher than usual stud, the size may need to be re-calculated. Vent Axia and Solarventi have smaller models suitable for a single room.

Prices

Installed price: Manufacturer's suggested or estimated price for main centre installation by the maker or their agent. Note that adding options will substantially increase the price. Because different makers include different features on some models, it can be difficult to make exact comparisons.

Some systems can be installed from DIY kits (Comfortmaster, Smartvent, and Weiss). The prices we've listed for these includes an estimate for the electrical connection.

Standard filter price: Cost for a replacement filter.

  • * Prices are from our 2004 survey and will be updated as soon as the maker replies.
  • [A] = Price includes roof mounting kit.
  • [B] = Price includes installation.
  • [C] = Filter price includes installation and a system check.
  • [D] = Fitting an extra outlet increases the size of house that can be ventilated.
  • [E] = All Healthaire systems have multiple outlets. The base system has two; more expensive systems have more as required.

Control panel

Some models may have no more than an on/off switch. To make any other adjustments, like speed settings or temperature cut out (if this is possible) you will need to climb into the roof.

Features

See the Checklist for information about features.

  • [F] = Only the high temperature cut-out can be adjusted.
  • [G] = Ducted models of this type automatically function as a heat transfer system.

Performance warranty

A full refund and removal of the product if it fails to reduce condensation to acceptable levels within the defined period - often set at three winter months. If you install yourself, performance warranties do not usually apply.

  • [H] = Driveaire guarantees it will be able to make its systems work without a specific time limit.
