Model
We show the details of models from suppliers that responded to our survey. HRV again declined to give us information. The more expensive systems from each maker often include options such as extra vents that can improve performance. We strongly advise getting competitive quotes on several different systems which include similar features, especially if you are considering the HRV brand.
Drivaire, DVS and moistureMASTER also offer positive pressure systems designed for houses that have no usable roof space.
(a) = The Smartvent Synergy is a variation on the balanced pressure type. It draws air from the roof space rather than outside fresh air.
Type
See Types of system for details on the pros and cons of each system.
Prices
Installed price: Manufacturer's suggested or estimated price for main centre installation by the maker or their agent. Note that adding options will substantially increase the price. Because different makers include different features on some models, it can be difficult to make exact comparisons. Some systems can be installed from DIY kits (Comfortmaker, Smartvent, and Weiss). The prices we've listed for these don’t include installation or the cost of the electrical connection.
(b) = Price on application. Expect to be quoted at least $4000, and depending on the size of your house and number of vents – over $7000 is possible.
Standard filter price: Cost for a replacement filter.
Tip: lower cost filters for HRV and DVS systems are available from www.filtercorp.co.nz.
Control panel
Some models may have no more than an on/off switch. To make any other adjustments, like speed settings or temperature cut out (if this is possible) you will need to climb into the roof.
