Guide to the table

Testing was carried out by an independent laboratory in New Zealand. All models were manufactured in New Zealand and are on the Ministry for the Environment's list of approved woodburners.

Price

Based on a survey in Auckland, Wellington and Christchurch during March 2009. Flue kits are required and add an extra $375-$600 to these prices. Installation charges are also extra. The price for wetback models includes the cost of a wetback unit.

Emissions (g/kg)

This is the actual emissions rate of the woodburner, and the figure that should be on the compliance plate. The compliance plate tells you the woodburner meets the National Environmental Standard and is approved by the local council.

Efficiency (%)

This is the overall burning efficiency of the woodburner, and the figure that should be on the compliance plate.
