About Us
Consumer Foundation
The Consumer Foundation is dedicated to the promotion of consumer research and advocacy.
The Foundation was formed in 2010 and incorporates the Emily Carpenter Consumer Charitable Trust, which was established in 1994 with funds from a bequest by the late Miss Emily Carpenter CMG BHSc. Emily was one of the New Zealand consumer movement’s most dedicated and longest serving participants.
The Foundation will continue with the valuable work and aims of the Emily Carpenter Trust, which are largely to promote consumer welfare and public awareness of issues of importance to consumers. But the Foundation will also work to considerably broaden the profile and funding available to promote those aims.
An interim board has been established which is chaired by Consumer NZ board member and Associate Professor in Commercial Law Alexandra Sims. Other Foundation board members are former Consumer NZ chief executive David Russell, current chief executive Sue Chetwin, and Consumer NZ board members Nicola Wills and Oscar Alpers.
The aims of the Foundation are:
- to support and fund education and research projects to promote consumer welfare and public awareness of issues of importance to consumers
- to support and fund representations to organisations and agencies on issues of importance to consumers
- to support and fund participation in committees and councils having an interest in consumer issues.
To be effective in supporting useful consumer projects and research, the Foundation needs more funds. The Trustees welcome donations and bequests.
