Life members

The Consumer Board grants life membership to people who have made an outstanding contribution to consumer rights.

There are currently two life members.

David Russell

David has been a lifelong champion of consumers. A staff member for 35 years, he played a major part in the development of the Consumer Guarantees Act and the Fair Trading Act during his 17 years as chief executive.

He was appointed a Companion of the Queen’s Service Order for community service in 2007 and  awarded an honorary PhD in commerce by Massey University in 2008.

Peter Sutton

Peter was assistant chief executive and research & testing manager of Consumer during his many years with the organisation.

After leaving to pursue other interests, Peter then served as a member of the Consumer Board from 2004 to 2010.
