Cookies

Temporary cookies

We use temporary (per-session) cookies:

  • To "remember" that a consumer.org.nz member has logged in. This means that you don't have to enter your username and password more than once a visit.
  • To help us keep track of items you have added to your shopping basket for purchase, so we can process your order.
  • To personalise some parts of your site visit.

Our temporary cookies must be accepted in order to login or to purchase a membership or product from us. These cookies will disappear when you logout of consumer.org.nz.

We also use temporary cookies with some of our polls and surveys, to help manage user responses, for some aspects of the site search function, and for tracking conversions from some of our online advertising and promotions.

Permanent cookies

We use permanent (persistent) cookies for our automatic login feature.

When enabled on a computer, this feature means that members don't have to manually login each time they visit consumer.org.nz from that computer. Your browser must be set to accept permanent cookies for this feature to work.

You can choose not to enable this feature. If you do choose to use the automatic login, this feature can be turned off at any time by logging out.

Important! You should not use the automatic login feature unless you are the only person who has access to the computer. Never enable this feature on a public access computer - this could allow other people to access the site under your login and access your consumer.org.nz account details.

To check and adjust your cookie settings ...

If you use Internet Explorer (Version 6 or 7)

  • Go to the Tools menu,
  • Click Internet options,
  • Click the Privacy tab
  • The Privacy settings slider has six settings: "Block All Cookies", "High", "Medium High", "Medium" (default level), "Low", and "Accept All Cookies". Consumer.org.nz should work on anything medium high or lower.

Internet Explorer also has a number of other cookie options you may wish to use.

  • You can override automatic cookie handling by clicking Advanced on the Privacy tab. In the Advanced Privacy Settings dialog box, there are a number of options which allow you to control cookies. Select the option to "always allow session cookies", and, if you wish to use our automatic login feature, you'll need to select the option to "Accept First-party cookies".
  • You can also override cookie handling for individual websites - click the Sites in the Privacy tab to use this feature.

If you use Firefox

  • Go to the Tools menu
  • Select privacy
  • Select cookies
  • Check the "Allow sites to set cookies" or "Accept cookies from all sites" option.
  • Note that as an alternative to accepting all cookies, you can set FireFox to accept cookies from specific sites. Click "Exceptions", then enter our url - www.consumer.org.nz - and then click allow.
