How do I find an article or test report?

Our site contains over 400 reports published in Consumer magazine within the last 2-3 years, plus lots of additional, online-only information.

There are a number of different ways to find information on consumer.org.nz:

  • Browse in a subject category. Our site is divided into various categories and subcategories, each relating to a different subject area. (For example, Appliances, Cars, Electronics). To go directly to a category, click the category link that appears at the top of every page (or on the left hand side of the homepage). This takes you to the category page and shows you all the subcategories within the category.
  • Search the site. Simply enter your word(s) into the search box that appears at the top of every page. (See search tips for information on the best ways to search.)
  • Checkout our site map for an overview of the main sections of the site.
  • See the A-Z index for an alphabetical listing of all the major tests and reports on the site.

What are PDF documents and how do I view them?

Some of the information on our site is presented in PDF documents. (PDF stands for "Portable Document Format"). PDFs are like a 'picture' of a printed page, and are useful where a specific layout is required. We have generally used PDFs to present test results tables from older reports, and for checklists which are intended for printing.

To view and print PDFs you will need Adobe Acrobat Reader software installed on your computer.

You may already have this software installed. If not, you can download a copy free from Adobe.
