Results of the Consumer NZ board election 2014.

Nicola Wills returned for her third term on the Board, Oscar Alpers was elected to his second term and we welcomed Jon Duffy from Trade Me as a new Board member.

Since the election was held, Nicola Wills resigned to take up a statutory appointment with The Health & Disability Commissioner. Marie Shroff, the next highest-polling candidate, filled the board vacancy created by Nicola’s departure. At its August meeting the board elected Richard Aston as its Chair and Sue Kedgley as its Deputy Chair.

Jon Duffy heads Trust and Safety at Trade Me, New Zealand’s largest online market place. Previously he was a senior investigator at the Commerce Commission and led the investigation of GlaxoSmithKline for misrepresenting Vitamin C in Ribena. Jon was also in charge of the Complaints and Investigations team at the Real Estate Agents Authority and is a Netsafe NZ Board member.

Marie Shroff has considerable experience in governance – including board membership of the Equal Opportunities Trust and the International Board of the Commonwealth Association for Public Administration. She is a former Cabinet Secretary and served for 10 years as the Privacy Commissioner. She has been a member of Consumer since the 1970s.
