The problem

BRP is recalling Evinrude E-TEC G2 74° V6 (3.4 L) outboard engines because the steering system may lose hydraulic fluid and result in a loss of steering control.

The outboard engine has two T45 pipe plugs to allow installation of a Hydraulic Tie Bar. The T45 pipe plugs are left in place on a single engine application and are only removed on one of the engines when installing a Hydraulic Tie Bar on multi-engine applications. A change was made to reduce the difficulty in removal of those plugs when the application requires a Hydraulic Tie Bar, but the plugs were not sufficiently tightened.

What to do

If you have not already been contacted by BRP about the recall, contact your local Evinrude/Johnson dealer to have your outboard serviced free of charge. Your dealer will tighten the two T45 pipe plugs and complete a steering system leak test. The service will be performed at no charge to you.
