Decision means new provider doesn't mean new number.
Consumers will continue to be able to keep their phone number when they change providers for the next 5 years.
The Commerce Commission decided to keep regulating number portability for landline and mobile numbers until 2021. It also extended the days portability can be done to now include Saturday.
It’s good news for consumers as it means you can switch providers without the hassle of changing numbers, making it easier to take up a better deal. More than a million New Zealanders have used the service since it was introduced in 2007.
