The problem

GT Bicycles has recalled some of its 2017 bicycle models. The handlebars can crack over time which could cause the rider to lose control of the bike and fall.

Details

The bike models below are only included in the recall if they have:

  • a solid black GT logo on the downtube
  • a stem marked “Ø31.8 9-10N.m”

These bike models are affected:

  • 2017 Karakoram Sport
  • 2017 Karakoram Comp
  • 2017 Aggressor Expert
  • 2017 Aggressor Sport
  • 2017 Aggressor Comp

What to do

Use these steps to check if your bike is affected:

Step 1
If the GT logo on the downtube is solid, proceed to Step 2. If the logo is not solid, the bicycle is not affected.

The model name is found either on the top tube or chainstay
The model name is found either on the top tube or chainstay

Step 2
If the bicycle model name is listed above, proceed to Step 3. If not, the bicycle is not affected. The model name is found either on the top tube or chainstay (pictured right).

Step 3
If the bicycle stem faceplate marking reads "Ø31.8 9-10N.m," the bike may be affected by this recall. If it does not have this exact marking, the bike is not affected. The marking can be found on either the top or the bottom side of the stem.

If your bike is affected, stop using it and take it to an authorised GT dealer. It will replace the handlebar and stem free of charge.
