The problem

Makita has recalled its EM2500L, EM2600L and ER2600L petrol line trimmers. If the grommet becomes deformed after a period of use, the fuel tank may leak which could pose a fire hazard.

Details

The affected line trimmers were sold at NZ retail outlets between June 2016 and August 2017.

The affected models can be identified by the serial numbers below:

EM2500L

  • 160500001 to 160500070

EM2600L

  • 160400151 to 160400175
  • 160700171 to 160700220
  • 160500351 to 160500420

ER2600L

  • 160600001 to 160600175
  • 160700701 to 160700770
  • 160800981 to 160801050
  • 160901001 to 160901070
  • 170200021 to 170200055
  • 170301121 to 170301140
  • 170401296 to 170401330

What to do

Check the model and serial number of your line trimmer.

If your line trimmer is within the affected range, stop using it. Take it into the store you bought it from or a Makita Authorised Service Agent for a free modification.
