Recall: Apple 15-inch MacBook Pro laptops

The battery could overheat, posing a fire safety risk.

Apple has recalled some of its older generation 15-inch MacBook Pro laptops.

The problem

The battery in some older generation 15-inch MacBook Pro laptops could overheat, posing a fire safety risk. The recall does not affect any other 15-inch MacBook Pro or Mac laptops.

Details

Affected laptops were sold between September 2015 - February 2017 and can be identified by their product serial number.

What to do

Check if your laptop is a model affected by the recall:

  • In the upper-left corner of your laptop’s screen, choose “About This Mac” from the Apple menu.
  • If you have a “MacBook Pro (Retina, 15-inch, Mid 2015),” enter your laptop's serial number on the Apple recall program page to see if it’s eligible for a replacement battery.
  • If your MacBook Pro is eligible, stop using it. Follow the instructions on Apple's recall program page to get your battery replaced free of charge.
