The problem

Arisit Pty Ltd have recalled Ariston and Indesit tumble dryers. Lint may collect around the rear drum seal of affected dryers and fall near the dryer heater. This could result in the lint catching fire.

The dryer types affected are air-vented tumble dryers and condensing tumble dryers. Affected dryers were available from August 2004 at Harvey Norman, Betta Electrical, Noel Leeming and Smith City stores nationwide.

Note: We have asked the company for the model numbers of the dryers affected in New Zealand. They have advised that when you are registering your model number on their website, the website will automatically identify if your dryer is affected by the recall. If it is not affected, the website will not allow you to register.

Check if your dryer has a green "dot" sticker in the door area or on the back plate. If there is a sticker, no action is required. Your dryer already contains the necessary modification to improve its safety and performance, which was included during manufacture.

If your dryer does not have a green "dot" sticker, visit the Indesit website for instructions on how to arrange for a free modification.

You will need your dryer's model and serial numbers, which can be found either on the dryer door or the back of the dryer.

You can keep using your tumble dryer while waiting for the modification. However, do not leave your dryer unattended during use. Check and clean the filter after every cycle and ensure proper dryer venting, as directed in the product manual.
