A specific batch of the oysters has an elevated level of E.coli.

The problem

Kia Ora Seafoods has recalled a specific batch of its half-shell Pacific oysters because it contains an elevated level of E.coli.

Affected oysters can be identified by the following:

  • Batch number: 5869
  • Date marking: Best Before (Chilled): 29.11.2016

    The oysters were sold at the following stores in Auckland, as packs of 4 or 12 (one dozen) in a tray covered by plastic wrap:

  • Premium Seafood’s Retailers & Wholesale (12 half-shell oysters only)

  • Realfresh Seafood (4-pack only).

Kia Ora Seafoods does not appear on the product label. Check for the code PH144 on the label of the 12-pack of half-shell oysters.

4-pack half-shell oysters are labelled as: 'Pacific oyster jumbo size'. Check the Best Before date because other dates are not affected.

What to do

Check the batch number and date mark on the product label. Affected products should not be consumed. If you have consumed this product and have any concerns about your health, seek medical advice.

Return affected products to your retailer for a full refund.
